Without boost, for example with the engine stopped or at low load, the pressure sensor ahead of the turbocharger or supercharger must read about the same as the barometric pressure sensor. P006D is set when the difference is too large; some manufacturers compare against an estimated barometric value instead and run the check once per ignition cycle. Typical causes are a faulty inlet pressure sensor, a faulty barometric sensor (often inside the control module) or a wiring or reference-voltage fault. Each sensor can be electrically fine on its own; regulations require such plausibility checks for input sensors with a code of their own.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? You can drive with caution to a repair shop. Avoid demanding power if the car is in limp mode.
Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Often no further symptoms
- Reduced boost possible
Most likely causes
- Inlet pressure sensor faulty
- Barometric pressure sensor or control module faulty
- Wiring, connector or 5 V reference faulty
- Clogged air filter lowering pressure ahead of the compressor
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P006D means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 6D: Specific fault in that system
