P00AD: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High Bank 2

Intake air temperature sensor 1 for bank 2 measures the intake air temperature in the second intake path, typically near the air filter or in the air flow meter of that bank, on engines with two separate intake paths. For P00AD, the sensor signal is above its valid range. With the usual voltage-type NTC sensor this means an open circuit or a short to the reference voltage, and the control module reads an extremely low temperature; with sensors that have a frequency output, a high signal corresponds to an extremely high temperature. Bank 2 codes occur only on engines with two separate intake or charge-air paths, one per cylinder bank.

Low severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can normally keep driving and take it to a repair shop when convenient.

Bank 2 is the side without cylinder 1, so it only exists on V or boxer engines.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Usually no noticeable symptoms
  • Slightly changed power or knock control with an implausible reading

Most likely causes

  • Connector loose or corroded, or wire interrupted
  • Sensor open internally
  • Sensor ground interrupted
  • Engine control module faulty

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: easy
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P00AD means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • AD: Specific fault in that system
