P025C: Fuel Pump Module A Control Circuit Low

On demand-controlled fuel systems the engine module does not drive the pump itself but sends a pump control module the desired pump output on a separate control line, usually as a duty cycle; the module reports back on a monitor line or via CAN. P025C means the control circuit to pump module A reads low, typically a short to ground. On Ford's 3.0 diesel the pump module detects it; on the 6.7 it means a short on the low side of the pump relay – both within 0.5 s. FCA documents it with the warning light on and sometimes a start followed by stalling, often together with P01C6 and P016F; the checks cover the pump module connector, the low-pressure sensor and a ground point for water, corrosion and pushed-back pins.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Avoid long trips and hard acceleration. If you smell fuel or the car stalls, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Engine starts and dies again
  • Starting problems
  • Loss of power from low supply pressure

Most likely causes

  • Control line chafed to ground at the frame
  • Water or corrosion at the pump module connector
  • Ground point loose or corroded
  • Pump control module faulty internally
  • Pump relay faulty (Ford 6.7)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P025C means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 2: Fuel injection
  • 5C: Specific fault in that system
