P032F: Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque

P032F is a plausibility code: the engine module compares the torque the combustion engine actually delivers with the expected or requested torque. On hybrids the actual torque can be measured precisely through the generator; if it stays too low for a calibrated time, the code sets. Ford uses it on the 2.5 litre Escape, Corsair and Maverick hybrids: after recall 23V-380 the software detects internal engine damage such as connecting rod bearing failure and can then shut the engine down – P032F appears together with Ford's P1061; another bulletin fixes false setting by software. Stellantis lists it on the Ram 6.7 Cummins for engine stall detection. Thresholds are not published.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light and warning (Ford: wrench, stop safely)
  • Reduced power, combustion engine shut off
  • Knocking or metallic noise from the engine

Most likely causes

  • Internal mechanical engine damage (connecting rod bearings, crank drive)
  • Engine software (false setting)
  • Poor combustion (misfire, fuel or air shortage, low compression)
  • Increased internal friction (wrong oil, seizing parts)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P032F means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 3: Ignition and misfires
  • 2F: Specific fault in that system
