Active grille shutters close the air inlet when little cooling is needed, to reduce drag and speed up warm-up. P05FE is the performance check of a third shutter C – target and actual position do not match, as P059F does for shutter A and P05AE for shutter B. Only vehicles with three separately driven shutters could set it, and no manufacturer was found that uses a shutter C: GM and Ford use only A (upper) and B (lower). This description therefore follows A and B: control is suspended and the shutter stays where it is or opens; if it sticks closed, cooling air is missing under load. GM and Ford light the lamp for A and B after two trips. Ice and debris are frequent causes, and GM fixed false A/B codes in snow by software on the 2025 Equinox. Stuck on is P2C73.
