P062D: Fuel Injector Driver Circuit Performance Bank 1

Direct-injection injectors (petrol and common-rail diesel) need a high boost voltage generated in the module to open fast; the module then holds them with pulsed battery voltage. P062D monitors this boost voltage or the shared injector supply of bank 1. GM's 2018 Duramax sets it when the internal boost voltage is above 75 V or below about 52 V, the supply line to the injectors is open or the module has an internal fault, in 14 of 20 samples at 6.25 ms, with the lamp in the first trip (2025: above 60 V or below 40 V). Ford's petrol direct injection flags it when the opening current is not reached in time (10 s, no cylinder named), Ford's diesel when the driver chip reports a loss of high voltage (0.5 s). Injectors then open late or not at all: misfires, rough running, loss of power or no start. GM uses only P062D, also on V8s. Single injector circuits are P0201 ff.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.

Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light (GM in the first trip)
  • Misfires, rough running, stumbling
  • Loss of power or limp mode
  • Hard start or no start

Most likely causes

  • Short in an injector high-side wire or injector collapsing the boost voltage
  • Module internal (boost converter, driver chip)
  • System undervoltage or poor ground
  • Harness or injector connector (moisture, oil)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P062D means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • 2D: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep driving with code P062D?

Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.

What causes code P062D?

The most common causes are: short in an injector high-side wire or injector collapsing the boost voltage; module internal (boost converter, driver chip); system undervoltage or poor ground.
