P063E: Auto Configuration Throttle Input Not Present Bank 1

Some modules configure themselves at start-up by detecting which inputs are present. P063E means the module expects a throttle position input for bank 1 but does not detect it. Unlike circuit codes such as P0122/P0123 or P2135, which judge a present but faulty signal, this says the input was not found for the configuration. No manufacturer document or patent available to us describes this check; the explanation is derived from the J2012 wording. CARB requires input components to be checked for circuit continuity and plausibility, and modules with several variants to detect a wrong one. Possible causes are an unplugged throttle body or open wiring, or software meant for a different vehicle. Without a throttle signal an electronic throttle runs in limp mode.

High severity. Can I keep driving?Be careful: the car may suddenly lose power. If it goes into limp mode, get off the highway and calmly make your way to a repair shop.

Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Limp mode, reduced power
  • Rough idle, poor throttle response
  • Additional throttle circuit codes

Most likely causes

  • Throttle sensor or unit not connected, connector or wire open
  • Wrong module software or variant for the vehicle (module from another model)
  • Faulty throttle unit
  • Internal module fault

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P063E means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 6: Control modules and outputs
  • 3E: Specific fault in that system
