P075F: Transmission Fluid Level Too High

P075F is not a circuit fault but a condition: a working fluid level sensor reports a level above the target band – the counterpart of P070F. In the Allison patent the transmission module reports 'too high, drain a quart or more', measuring only with the vehicle at rest, warm fluid and low input speed. No manufacturer document available to us uses this code. Overfilling makes rotating parts churn the fluid, which foams, pressure control becomes unsteady, fluid escapes at the vent and temperature rises; an FCA bulletin traces poor shifting after repairs to overfilling. Automatic transmission fluid level depends strongly on temperature – topping up cold often overfills.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Transmission fluid level warning
  • Fluid escaping at the transmission vent
  • Foaming fluid, unsteady or harsh shifts
  • Transmission overheating

Most likely causes

  • Overfilled at fluid change or repair (wrong check temperature or procedure)
  • Level sensor drifting (reads too high)
  • Measured under poor conditions (slope, cold fluid)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium

What each character of P075F means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • 5F: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
