Shift codes check the gear change itself: the module compares the commanded change with the speed trace and flags a shift that takes too long, does not happen, flares or binds up two clutches. They continue the series P0781 '1-2 Shift' to P0784 '4-5 Shift'. No manufacturer document available to us uses P07DA or P07DB: Ford's Diesel summary checks shift completion (speed must drop by more than 30 rpm on an upshift, flare above 300 rpm) without a gear-specific code, Ford's 10R80 feeds the solenoid function codes and GM the clutch valve codes. P07DA names the change between 6th and 7th gear, in either direction, as faulty; it exists only on transmissions with seven or more gears. Flags and thresholds follow the manufacturer's own logic.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.
Symptoms
- Harsh, delayed or missing 6-7 shift
- Engine speed flares during the shift
- Transmission warning, possibly MIL
Most likely causes
- Shift or clutch valve sticking
- Worn clutch or hydraulic leak on the clutches involved
- Shift adaptives wrong
- Fluid level or condition
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: hard
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P07DA means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- 7: Transmission
- DA: Specific fault in that system
