P08AA: Clutch Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit High

P08AA is the mirror image of P08A9: the pedal sensor signal climbs into the upper dead band that a healthy sensor never reaches. GM's threshold is above 96 % of the 5 V reference for 400 of 500 samples at 12.5 ms, engine not cranking, system voltage above 9 V; Type A, MIL after one trip. It replaced GM's pre-2018 P0808 and appears in the LV7, 2019 Corvette ZR1 and 2018 OBDG04 tables. Ford's 2020–23 gasoline summary lists P08AA for both its dual PWM and single analog clutch pedal sensor layouts, flagged in under a second. A lost sensor ground or a signal shorted to the reference are the usual triggers. Sensor B high is P08B7; the driver mostly loses start-stop and cruise control.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp on after one trip
  • Start-stop and cruise control disabled
  • Clutch status shown incorrectly in scan tool data

Most likely causes

  • Open sensor ground wire or corroded ground pin
  • Signal wire shorted to the 5 V reference or to battery voltage
  • Failed clutch pedal position sensor A
  • Faulty sensor input in the engine control module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: easy
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P08AA means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 8: Transmission
  • AA: Specific fault in that system
