P0933: Hydraulic Pressure Sensor Range/Performance

The pressure reading is electrically valid but does not fit the operating state. Chrysler RFE, RLE and TES transmissions set it when measured line pressure is more than 25 psi (172 kPa) above the commanded value while staying below the highest pressure ever used in that gear; Sonnax notes that a maximum-pressure condition from an open pressure control solenoid circuit can trigger it and mislead toward the sensor. Ferrari lists P0933 on its DCT as an invalid hydraulic pressure sensor signal, read in the NCR gearbox ECU. Neighbours: P0932, P0934 and P0935 are circuit faults, P0936 intermittent, P0869 a true high line pressure. The driver notices firm or harsh shifts.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Harsh or firm engagements and shifts
  • Warning light on
  • Shift quality does not adapt and may stay rough

Most likely causes

  • Open circuit or fault in the line pressure control solenoid causing real excess pressure
  • Pressure sensor drifting or reading offset
  • Worn or sticking valves in the valve body
  • Wrong fluid level or degraded fluid

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0933 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 9: Transmission
  • 33: Specific fault in that system
