P0975: Shift Solenoid B Control Circuit Range/Performance

Range/performance fault in the drive circuit of shift solenoid B. Three documented uses differ widely. GM's 2007 Allison 1000 table used it for an open SS2 circuit, confirmed by an intrusive low-side test (400 ms, Type A). FCA's 2016 recall for the 9-speed front-drive transaxle (Cherokee, 200, Renegade, 500X, ProMaster City) names P0975 with P0978, P0981 and P0984 as the codes set by intermittent high resistance from poorly crimped terminals in the range sensor harness under old TCM software; updated software reports that case as P0901 instead. Ferrari's DCT uses P0975 for a missing actuator 2 position signal. Low/high are P0976/P0977.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • MIL or transmission warning on
  • Unexpected shift to neutral or loss of drive (FCA 9-speed)
  • Fixed default gear or harsh shifts

Most likely causes

  • Poorly crimped terminals causing intermittent high resistance (FCA 9-speed recall)
  • Open or high-resistance coil of shift solenoid B
  • Outdated transmission software that misreads harness resistance
  • Faulty driver stage in the transmission control module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0975 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 9: Transmission
  • 75: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep driving with code P0975?

Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

What causes code P0975?

The most common causes are: poorly crimped terminals causing intermittent high resistance (FCA 9-speed recall); open or high-resistance coil of shift solenoid B; outdated transmission software that misreads harness resistance.
