P0AD0: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Cooling Fan 3 Performance/Stuck Off

P0AD0 is a functional fault: the control line of battery fan 3 may be electrically fine, but the blower does not deliver what was commanded, or stays still. Depending on design, the controller compares fan speed feedback with the request, or, as a Honda patent describes, compares the expected battery temperature change for the known cooling capacity with the measured one. CARB asks for such a functional check of the battery cooling where feasible. No manufacturer publicly documents P0AD0 itself; circuit faults of the same fan are P0ACF, P0AD2 and P0AD3, the opposite case is P0AD1. The driver usually sees a hybrid warning and reduced power on hot days.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV system warning light
  • Power or regeneration limited after longer drives or in heat
  • Battery temperature rises faster than usual

Most likely causes

  • Fan intake or duct blocked by dirt, pet hair or objects (often under or beside a seat)
  • Worn bearings or debris slowing the fan wheel
  • Speed feedback signal from fan 3 missing or implausible
  • Weak 12 V supply or poor ground at the fan

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0AD0 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • D0: Specific fault in that system
