P0BF6: Drive Motor B Phase V Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

P0BF6 is the performance check of the phase V current sensor in the motor B inverter, implemented by GM as a zero offset test. The offset is learned at every start with no current through the motor and must stay within 30 A on the 2011 Volt (Type A, P0BEB/P0BEC not active, as printed in the table) and in the 2016 tables (Type A, 0.1 s), within 30 A on the 2012 and 2013 two-mode trucks (Type B, two trips) and within 35 A in a 2019 table (Type A, 0.4 s). A shifted zero would skew torque control and the phase current balance. Jeep names P0BF6 as Drive Motor B Inverter Phase V Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance on the 2020 Renegade and Compass 1.3 PHEV (EMEA), fixed by reflashing the hybrid control processors.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp
  • Turtle (limp home) light and Service 4WD light (Jeep)
  • Reduced electric drive power

Most likely causes

  • Hybrid control processor software (Jeep bulletin 08-056-21/08-057-21)
  • Zero point of the motor B phase V current sensor drifted past the limit
  • Faulty current sensing electronics in the power inverter module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0BF6 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • B: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • F6: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
