P0CC2: Drive Motor A Coolant Pump Control Circuit Range/Performance

P0CC2 judges whether the pump for drive motor A actually moves coolant, not only whether its wiring is intact. GM's 2013 eAssist table 13OBDG05C infers flow from temperature: when the model predicts more than 17 °C between the jacket coolant of the motor generator and the coolant reaching the loop sensor, a running pump should make the sensor warm up quickly. If its rate of change stays at 0.25 °C per second or less 20 s after the pump was switched on, the test fails, Type B, two trips, with over 10 V supply. The check is blocked by pump circuit codes P0CC1/P0CC3/P0CC4, by the loop sensor codes P0CBD to P0CBF and by stator sensor codes P0A2B to P0A2D. A seized or air-locked pump, low coolant or a blocked hose are typical; CARB section (e)(15.2.2) requires such functional checks of output components.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Check-engine lamp
  • Electric assist reduced as the motor generator heats up

Most likely causes

  • Air in the motor generator cooling loop, often after service
  • Worn or seized pump impeller
  • Low coolant level or kinked or blocked hose

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0CC2 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • C2: Specific fault in that system
