P0EB2: A/C Compressor Motor Phase U Current Sensor Circuit High

P0EB2 is set when the phase U current sensor of the electric A/C compressor sends a signal above its valid window. Current sensors in such inverters often output a voltage centred on zero current, so a stuck-high output reads like a large current in one direction even with the motor at rest. No manufacturer documents P0EB2 publicly. GM's 2011 Volt ran a standstill test that catches exactly this: plus 68 A or more on phase U with no speed request set the older code P0D7A, Type B. A short to the sensor supply, a damaged Hall element or a fault on the inverter board are typical. The compressor controller stops the motor to protect the power stage. P0EB3 covers the low side; P0EB5 and P0EB8 report the same fault on phases V and W.

Low severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can keep driving. The air conditioning may not work.

Symptoms

  • Compressor will not start or stops at once
  • No cooling during hot weather

Most likely causes

  • Damaged Hall element of the phase U sensor
  • Phase U signal shorted to the sensor supply
  • Defect on the inverter board affecting the U channel

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

What each character of P0EB2 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • E: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • B2: Specific fault in that system
