P2025 means the vapor temperature reading is electrically valid but does not make sense against other inputs or over time. Audi documents a real-world cause on 2016–2018 A6 and A7 with the 3.0 litre engine: water gets into the tank ventilation path, runs past the leak detection pressure switch (NVLD) into the canister and turns to ice in cold weather. Owners notice the pump nozzle clicking off while refuelling, and P2025 can appear with P0441, P0451 and P0453. The bulletin has the canister weighed – above 2650 g it is replaced with switch and vent tube – and the filter relocated or the wheel liner updated. Volkswagen released ECM software for the 2022 Taos (24HV) and for Jetta and Taos (24iR) that also prevents P2025 entries. Ford's 2014 code list marks it as a MIL code.
Low severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can normally keep driving. If there is a strong smell of gasoline, find the leak before continuing and do not smoke nearby.
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on
- Fuel nozzle shuts off repeatedly when filling the tank
- EVAP readiness incomplete
Most likely causes
- Water or ice in canister and NVLD switch (Audi A6/A7 3.0)
- ECM software setting the code falsely (VW Jetta/Taos 2022)
- Temperature sensor drifted or slow to respond
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2025 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 25: Specific fault in that system
