P2068: Fuel Level Sensor B Circuit High

P2068 is the upper limit fault of the second fuel level sender: its signal sits above anything a working sender can produce, which normally means an open circuit, a lost sender ground or a short to a supply voltage. Ford reports it above 200 ohms, more than 253 A/D counts, using the same 30 s electrical check as for sender A. GM's 2020 dual-tank table needs 100 out of 125 samples with the secondary sender above 60 % of the 5 V span, Type B. Mercedes lists it as P206800, the secondary fill level sender shorted to plus. Ford SSM 52771 covers 2024 Bronco Sport, Escape and Corsair that displayed Fuel Level Low with the MIL and P2068 although the tank was not low; its pinpoint test was rewritten. Because the gauge combines both senders, one bad reading skews the whole display.

Low severity. Can I keep driving? You can normally keep driving. If it affects the fuel level, do not trust the gauge and refuel earlier than usual.

Symptoms

  • Low fuel warning or empty gauge with fuel in the tank
  • MIL on
  • Range estimate jumps or is implausible

Most likely causes

  • Open signal or ground wire, unplugged sender connector
  • Sender card worn through or wiper lifted off the track
  • Signal wire shorted to a supply voltage

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2068 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 0: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 68: Specific fault in that system
