P2115: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor D Minimum Stop Performance

Here the controller judges position signal D at the released (minimum) end of travel. On Ford and GM drive-by-wire systems D is the first accelerator pedal sensor, so the code means the pedal's idle reading is outside the expected window, for example because the pedal does not return fully or its sensor track has shifted. No manufacturer documents P2115 publicly; Ford and GM publish only circuit and correlation codes for D (P2120-P2123, P2138). P2116 and P2117 are the E and F counterparts, P2109 and P2113 refer to A and B. The engine may not return to idle cleanly, and the ECU may limit pedal response.

High severity. Can I keep driving?Be careful: the car may suddenly lose power. If it goes into limp mode, get off the highway and calmly make your way to a repair shop.

Symptoms

  • Warning lamp on
  • Engine does not drop to normal idle when the pedal is released
  • Dull or limited pedal response

Most likely causes

  • Pedal blocked by floor mat or weak return spring
  • Worn pedal sensor track D at the idle end
  • Aftermarket pedal tuning module or wrong pedal part
  • Corroded or loose pedal connector

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: easy
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2115 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 1: Air and fuel
  • 15: Specific fault in that system
