P217C: Fuel Injector Group G Supply Voltage Circuit High

P217C means the group G injector supply, cylinder 7 on GM's direct-injection V8 engines, is pulled up to supply voltage. GM tests this while the high-side driver is off: if the line sits within 1 V of the controller supply, the module treats it as shorted to power. The tables 16OBDG07A (2016), 18OBDG03A for the 6.2 LT4 and 19OBDG03A apply the same counting of 10 failures out of 20 samples, 100 ms apart, at 11 V or more, and treat it as type A with immediate MIL. A wire rubbed against a powered circuit, a damaged injector connector and, more rarely, a faulty driver inside the module are the usual causes; a module fault often shows as several high codes at once. To protect the injector from staying open, cylinder 7 is shut off. P217B is the low counterpart, P217A the general code.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Check engine lamp on immediately
  • Cylinder 7 misfire

Most likely causes

  • Cylinder 7 feed shorted to a powered wire
  • Damaged or wet injector connector
  • Engine control module driver fault

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P217C means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 1: Air and fuel
  • 7C: Specific fault in that system
