P2275 is the rich-side fault of the third oxygen sensor on bank 1, the last one on systems with two catalysts in series: it keeps a high voltage while the exhaust should be lean. VW's 2014 data books for the CC, Passat and Tiguan check it in fuel cut-off, comparing the voltage with 0.15 V once 4500 mg of oxygen have passed, more than the 3000 mg used for sensor 2 because the extra catalyst stores oxygen first. Jaguar Land Rover includes P2275 among the bank 1 post-catalyst sensor codes of its 2014 to 2016 3.0 supercharged V6 and replaces water-damaged sensors. Fouling by oil, coolant or sealant and a signal wire touching voltage are other plausible causes. P2271 is the same fault at sensor 2; P0144 reports a voltage above the valid range rather than a stuck reading.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can normally drive in moderation, but get it repaired soon: you will use more fuel and the catalytic converter can be damaged over time.
Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on
- No noticeable change in driveability
Most likely causes
- Third oxygen sensor contaminated or damaged by water
- Signal wire of sensor 3 touching a voltage source
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2275 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 2: Fuel injection
- 75: Specific fault in that system
