P2407 reports a pump feedback that jumps around instead of staying steady. On current-measuring DMTL pumps VW's 2014 Golf and Touareg books define it precisely: the pump current fluctuates by more than 1 mA during the reference measurement, or it drops by more than 6 mA for at least 3 s while pumping, checked with the engine off and on. Audi's TSB 2071770 (Q5, Q5 e, Q3, Q7 and others, 2022-23) calls the diagnosis too sensitive and cures it with new ECM software, and VW's 01-23-03 does the same for the 2022 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport 2.0T before any parts are replaced. Maserati and Jaguar list P2407 too. P2404 is the steady implausibility, P2403 a lost signal. The car runs normally; the warning light is the main effect.
Low severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can normally keep driving. If there is a strong smell of gasoline, find the leak before continuing and do not smoke nearby.
Symptoms
- Check engine light, sometimes only after the car has been parked
- Code returns irregularly after clearing
Most likely causes
- Over-sensitive diagnostic calibration, fixed by ECM software update (Audi, VW 2022-23)
- Loose contact or corrosion at the pump connector
- Worn pump motor with unstable current draw
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2407 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 4: Emissions
- 07: Specific fault in that system
