With P2482 the fifth bank 1 exhaust probe delivers a signal above its upper electrical limit. On GM diesels this code also covers the open circuit: the 2018 table sets it above 1400 Ω, both as a short to power with the driver off and as an interruption with the driver on, after 10 of 20 samples, Type B. The 2020 table makes it Type A. In 2025 GM uses more than 100 MΩ, or a digital value hotter than about 1290 °C, after 19 of 25 samples, again Type A with the lamp on after one trip. Ram names P2482 together with P2481 for its 2025–2026 heavy-duty diesel pick-ups. A loose plug or broken lead is therefore as likely as a failed probe. Compare with P2481 for the short to ground.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the light is on steadily, take a highway drive or go to a repair shop soon. If the car is in limp mode or the light is flashing, do not push the engine.
Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.
Symptoms
- Warning lamp, on GM from 2020 after a single trip
- Probe 5 shows a fixed extreme value
- Regeneration suppressed
Most likely causes
- Loose, corroded or unplugged connector
- Broken lead from heat or vibration
- Probe element open or high-resistance
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2482 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 4: Emissions
- 82: Specific fault in that system
