P250F is not a wiring code: the oil level sensor works, and the measured level is below the minimum. Mazda used it on 2021 models with the 2.5 L turbo (Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-30, CX-5, CX-9) where a low-oil message and the check engine light appeared after roughly 5,000 to 7,500 km without visible leaks; Mazda suspected oil entering the combustion chambers past damaged valve stem seals and first topped up free of charge. Hyundai shows the reverse risk: on 2023–2024 Venue with the 1.6 L MPI engine the code could set with the level in range, and a PCM update changed the warning logic. Deutz files the same condition as P250F-00. Sensor circuit faults are P250A to P250E. Check the dipstick before driving on.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the red oil warning light comes on, stop the car in a safe place and turn off the engine. Do not continue until you have confirmed the level and pressure.
Symptoms
- Low engine oil message and check engine light
- Oil level near or below minimum on the dipstick
Most likely causes
- Oil burned past valve stem seals or piston rings
- External oil leak or too little oil after a service
- Warning logic triggering with correct level, fixed by update (Hyundai)
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: easy
What each character of P250F means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 5: Speed and idle
- 0F: Specific fault in that system
