P2540: Low Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

P2540 checks whether the low-pressure fuel sensor's reading is credible. The signal stays inside its electrical window, yet the pressure it reports does not fit what the supply side should be delivering. In VW's 2014 Touareg specification book the code appears only in the chapter for engine code CGFA, which also carries the hybrid high-voltage faults; the criterion is a deviation of actual pressure, with limits given as 800 and 80 kPa. The chapter for engine code CGRA lists only P2539 and P2541. Ram counts P2540-00 among the faults addressed by a PCM reflash in bulletin 18-021-25 for the 2025 Ram 3500 with the 6.7 L Cummins HO, so software can be involved. Genuine causes are a weak supply pump or a clogged filter. P2539, P2541 and P2542 are circuit faults, P2543 dropouts. Hesitation or hard starts are possible.
