P2567: Direct Ozone Reduction Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit

P2567 is the general circuit fault of the sensor fitted to a direct ozone reduction (DOR) radiator - a radiator with a catalytic coating that converts ground-level ozone in the passing air and earns low-emission vehicles an NMOG credit. CARB section (e)(14) requires the OBD system to detect a missing or deteriorated DOR function. No manufacturer publicly documents P2567 itself. VW's 2014 books (CC, Tiguan) use the siblings P2568-P2570 for this sensor, with an identity check and LIN bus faults; MINI's 2015-2016 Cooper S with the B46M PZEV engine carries a LIN-linked catalyst sensor fixed to the radiator, logged under BMW's own fault codes. P2568 is the plausibility fault, P2569-P2571 low, high and intermittent. Often the radiator with its bonded sensor is replaced.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? You can usually keep driving, unless you notice a loss of power, which may point to a blockage. The car may not pass an emissions inspection.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • No change in driveability or engine cooling
  • Possible failed emissions inspection because of the stored code

Most likely causes

  • Failed radiator identification/temperature sensor
  • Damaged sensor wiring or connector at the radiator
  • Replacement radiator without coating or without sensor fitted

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P2567 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 2: Generic code: same on every make
  • 5: Speed and idle
  • 67: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
