Some engine computers pass a copy of the camshaft position signal on to another module, for example an injector driver unit or a valve timing controller. P2614 means that this outgoing line for camshaft A on bank 1 is broken or its pulses never reach the receiver. On the 2003 Ford 6.0 L Power Stroke diesel the PCM forwards the CMP pulse to the fuel injector control module (FICM); a counter in the FICM rises when that pulse is missing or out of step with the crank signal, checked above 90 rpm with 5 errors while cranking or 10 while running, and Ford lists the code with MIL. Mitsubishi names P2614 to P2616 for the 2022 Outlander, whose ECM feeds an electric intake valve timing module. P2615 and P2616 cover the shorted cases. Expect hard starting, stalling or a no-start.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive little and gently. If you hear timing chain noise or the oil light comes on, shut off the engine.
Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1. Inline engines only have this bank.
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp on
- Long cranking or no-start
- Engine stalls or misfires intermittently
Most likely causes
- Broken wire or loose terminal between sending module and receiving module
- Camshaft sensor signal itself missing or out of sync with the crank signal
- Receiving module (e.g. injector control module) not reading the signal
- Defective output stage in the engine control module
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: medium
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P2614 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 2: Generic code: same on every make
- 6: Control modules and outputs
- 14: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep driving with code P2614?
Drive little and gently. If you hear timing chain noise or the oil light comes on, shut off the engine.
What causes code P2614?
The most common causes are: broken wire or loose terminal between sending module and receiving module; camshaft sensor signal itself missing or out of sync with the crank signal; receiving module (e.g. injector control module) not reading the signal.
