P2690: Cylinder 5 Injector Data Incompatible

P2690 is the first code of the series that a four-cylinder engine cannot set; it needs at least five cylinders. It reports that the flow correction for the cylinder 5 injector is absent or rejected by the controller. GM uses it in its 2025 six-cylinder diesel table 25OBDG04B as well as in its V8 diesel tables, Type A, with the value stored under DID $64. Ford's 2023 diesel summary, which spans the 3.0 L V6 and 6.7 L V8, includes it too. On V engines the location of cylinder 5 varies: Ford counts one bank first, GM alternates sides, so the service data must be checked before touching an injector. Expect a lit MIL rather than drivability trouble.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and go to a repair shop. If you smell fuel or the engine is shaking badly, do not keep driving.

Cylinder 5 is numbered according to the manufacturer: check your engine's manual before working on it.

Symptoms

  • Rarely uneven running

Most likely causes

What to check, in order
