U0150: Lost Communication With Gateway E

U0150 is the last code of the gateway block and points at Gateway E. Gateways are central nodes that connect bus systems of different speed and type and forward only the messages each side needs. When E stops sending, the modules that expect its traffic log U0150, the way GM's U0100-U02FF procedure describes for any silent sender: a supervised periodic message is missing although supply voltage is in range. No manufacturer documents U0150 publicly; GM's U-code list ends its gateway entries at U0146. U0146 to U0149 refer to gateways A to D. Before suspecting the gateway, check power, ground and the bus lines to it; a code stored only in history after battery work needs no repair. MIL normally stays off.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? It depends on which control module has dropped out. If it affects the engine, brakes, or steering, do not continue your trip: call for roadside assistance.

Symptoms

  • Modules routed through gateway E not reachable by the scan tool
  • Several functions fail together
  • Warning messages in the instrument cluster

Most likely causes

  • Gateway E fuse blown or ground loose
  • Bus line to gateway E chafed or connector corroded
  • Gateway E software fault, update or reprogramming needed
  • Gateway E internally faulty

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.

What each character of U0150 means

  • U: Communication network
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 1: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 50: Specific fault in that system
