P0474: Exhaust Pressure Sensor A Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

The exhaust pressure sensor measures the pressure ahead of the turbine or in the manifold (Ford: turbine upstream pressure, Cummins: exhaust manifold pressure, older Ford diesels: EBP). The module uses it to calculate EGR flow, to control the variable turbine and engine braking, and to protect against overpressure. P0474 covers jumps of sensor A – and at Ford diesels more: in operation the measured pressure is compared with a back pressure model, and a deviation above 500 kPa or below −100 kPa for 2 s sets the code (1300–2400 rpm, warm engine). Ford petrol engines include it in the electrical checks (5 s). A Ford bulletin fixed P0474 on the 2018 6.7-litre with a software update.
