Each friction element (clutch or brake) has three functional codes: slip while commanded locked (P079A ff), performance/stuck off – it does not apply or applies too weakly – and stuck on – it does not release. No manufacturer document available to us uses this code; the documented hybrids have at most five monitored clutches. The description follows the family: when clutch F should release, slip stays below the expected profile. A clutch that does not release ties up the transmission, causing jolts or stalling. Slip of the same clutch is P079F.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.
Symptoms
- Check engine light or 'service hybrid system' message
- Jolt or tie-up on mode or gear changes
- Engine stalls or drags when stopping
- Limp mode with reduced power
Most likely causes
- Clutch F stuck, welded or piston hanging
- Valve or spool sticking in the applied position
- Contaminated fluid (debris)
- Module software
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: hard
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P07AD means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- 7: Transmission
- AD: Specific fault in that system
