P07AE: Transmission Friction Element G Performance/Stuck Off

Each friction element (clutch or brake) has three functional codes: slip while commanded locked (P079A ff), performance/stuck off – it does not apply or applies too weakly – and stuck on – it does not release. No manufacturer document available to us uses this code: the documented hybrids have at most five monitored clutches. The description follows the family. A clutch that does not apply means a missing gear or slip, typically from worn plates, low pressure or a sticking valve.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light or transmission warning
  • Gear missing or slipping, weak acceleration
  • Limp mode

Most likely causes

  • Clutch G plates worn or piston seal leaking
  • Too little apply pressure (fluid, pump, valve)
  • Clutch actuator or valve sticking (DCT: electric actuator)
  • Module software or lost adaption

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P07AE means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • AE: Specific fault in that system
