P07BF: Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit Low

These low/high codes are a purely electrical check of the sensor's signal voltage at the module and run even with the vehicle at rest – unlike the circuit, range, no-signal and intermittent codes, which evaluate speed while driving. Low means a short to ground, high a short to supply or, depending on the circuit, an open. GM's transmission modules from 2019 (9-speed, 10-speed) flag below 0.25 V or above 4.75 V – a short of under 0.5 Ω – for more than 0.05 s with the system above 10 V for 5 s, after one trip. P07BF is the low side: a short to ground of the input sensor. A GM bulletin for 2019 nine-speed models (Enclave, Equinox, Malibu, XT4 and others) traces intermittent P07BF/P07C0 together with P0717 to an open inside the input speed sensor.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light (GM after one trip)
  • Limp mode, harsh shifts, no converter lock-up
  • Adaption frozen

Most likely causes

  • Signal or supply wire shorted to ground (chafing at the case)
  • Sensor shorted internally
  • Oil or moisture in the connector
  • Module input faulty

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P07BF means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 7: Transmission
  • BF: Specific fault in that system
