P0807: Clutch Position Sensor A Circuit Low

The 'Clutch Position Sensor A' family (P0805 circuit to P0809, P080A not learned) means different parts by vehicle generation. GM used P0806–P080A until model year 2018 for the analog clutch pedal sensor of its manual cars, then the newer pedal sensor codes P08A8 ff; Saab's 2012 9-3 does the same. Ford's DPS6 dual clutch uses the family for the electric motor of clutch A. P0807 means the signal is too low. GM's three-wire pedal sensor on a 5 V reference has dead bands at both ends: below 4 % of the reference counts as low or open, 200 of 250 samples of 12.5 ms (about 3 s), engine not cranking, over 9 V, type A with the MIL after one trip. Saab names an open circuit or short to ground. With the clutch position unknown, cruise control, start-stop and starter release by the sensor are blocked.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive gently to a repair shop. If it slips, you hear clunks, or it loses its gears, do not keep driving.

Symptoms

  • Check engine lamp on
  • Cruise control not working
  • Start-stop disabled, possibly no engine start

Most likely causes

  • Signal wire open or shorted to ground
  • 5 V reference of the sensor missing
  • Pedal sensor faulty internally
  • Connector corroded or pins loose

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: easy
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0807 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 8: Transmission
  • 07: Specific fault in that system
