P08C0: Pressure Control Solenoid L Control Circuit Range/Performance

Set when the control circuit of pressure control solenoid L is electrically intact but its behaviour is implausible, for example the current through the coil does not match the commanded value. No manufacturer documents this code publicly; Toyota, the only documented user of letter L, publishes only P08BA71. As an orientation, GM's tables for the comparable solenoid M list a current check next to the circuit tests: a deviation of more than 70 % for 60 ms or more than 400 mA for 300 ms between target and estimated current, without naming P08C9 for it. Causes are a coil with changed resistance, contact resistance or supply problems. P08BF, P08C1 and P08C2 cover clear open or short faults.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Uneven shift quality

Most likely causes

  • Coil resistance out of specification
  • High contact resistance at connector pins
  • Unstable supply voltage to the transmission module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: hard
  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P08C0 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 8: Transmission
  • C0: Specific fault in that system
