The drive circuit of shift solenoid F works electrically but its measured current or voltage does not fit the command. No manufacturer was found to document this code. The users of the F block, Nissan's RE0F11A CVT and a 2019 Mitsubishi six-speed, list only P0998 and P0999. FCA's nine-speed bulletin 21-019-17 (2015 Chrysler 200 and Jeep Cherokee) shows how the slot is used for solenoids 2 to 5, with P0975, P0978, P0981 and P0984 for control circuit performance, but stops before a sixth solenoid. Genesis reports an electrical fault of its solenoid F under P2709 instead. CARB requires transmission outputs to be checked for proper function. P097F is the open circuit, P0998/P0999 low and high.
Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.
Symptoms
- Warning light depending on calibration
- Missing or harsh shifts into gears using this solenoid
- Possible limp mode
Most likely causes
- Solenoid coil resistance out of specification
- High-resistance connector or harness contact
- Weak driver stage in the transmission control module
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: hard
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0997 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- 9: Transmission
- 97: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep driving with code P0997?
