P0C0E: Drive Motor B Inverter Power Supply Circuit/Open

P0C0E is the motor B counterpart of P0C0B: the inverter for the second motor has lost the supply of its gate-drive board. GM documents it on the Volt and the two-mode trucks. The IGBT module reports a bias fault through its status line when the supply of phase A, B or C fails. The 2011 Volt checks with high voltage above 100 V, the 2012 trucks with run/crank voltage between 9.5 and 18 V, both after one count, Type A. The 2016 Volt needs 0.002 s of fault in a 0.024 s window, the 2018 table 0.02 s, the 2019 table 0.168 s, always Type A, one trip. P0C0F and P0C10 cover low and high supply. Motor B can no longer be driven, so propulsion is reduced.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp after one drive
  • Reduced propulsion message, motor B unavailable
  • Engine runs continuously instead of electric driving

Most likely causes

  • Failed gate-drive power supply inside the motor B inverter
  • Weak 12 V feed, blown fuse or poor ground at the inverter control board
  • Loose or corroded low-voltage connector at the power inverter module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0C0E means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 0E: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions
