P0C10: Drive Motor B Inverter Power Supply Circuit High

P0C10 flags a supply of the motor B inverter that is above its permitted range. Its siblings are P0C0E for a lost or open supply and P0C0F for a low one; P0C0D is the motor A version. No manufacturer documents P0C10 publicly. GM uses only the open-circuit code P0C0E for this supply and describes it as the power feed of the gate-drive board, monitored through the status line of the IGBT module. An overvoltage on that rail can damage the driver circuits, so the controller shuts the inverter down. CARB requires hybrid components to be checked for circuit faults. Expect a warning lamp and loss of the electric drive provided by motor B.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp, hybrid system warning
  • Reduced propulsion, motor B unavailable
  • Vehicle limited to engine or reduced-power operation

Most likely causes

  • Faulty voltage regulation of the gate-drive supply inside the motor B inverter
  • Excessive 12 V system voltage from the DC/DC converter or an external charger
  • Supply or sense line shorted to a higher voltage in the harness

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0C10 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 10: Specific fault in that system
