P0C2F: Internal Control Module Drive Motor/Generator - Engine Speed Sensor Performance

P0C2F is an internal plausibility check of the hybrid control processor: the engine speed it reads through its own sensor path must match other speed information. In GM's Two-Mode truck tables (12OBDG06, 13OBDG06) the HCP compares its SPI-sensed engine speed with the calculated transmission input speed and with the engine speed received over CAN; a deviation beyond 250 rpm above 1500 rpm, with a wider band at lower speed, in 160 of 320 samples sets it as Type A, MIL after one trip. Ford uses it on the 2021–2023 Mustang Mach-E as P0C2F:92 in the secondary OBD module C, paired with a 1 Pedal Drive fault message; bulletin 24-2187 fixes it by reprogramming the powertrain modules. Real sensor circuit faults have their own codes.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • MIL or hybrid system warning
  • One pedal drive or regenerative functions switched off (Ford Mach-E)
  • Reduced hybrid assist or limited power

Most likely causes

  • Control module software flagging the comparison falsely (Ford Mach-E, fixed by reprogramming)
  • Speed signals disagree because of a faulty input or a disturbed CAN signal
  • Internal fault of the hybrid control module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0C2F means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 2F: Specific fault in that system
