P0C49: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Pump A Control Circuit High

P0C49 is set when the control signal to battery coolant pump A remains too high, for example because the line is shorted to battery voltage or, on a pulled-up input, interrupted. Ford uses it on the 2020 Explorer, Police Interceptor Utility and Lincoln Aviator hybrids. Bulletins 20-2293 and 20-2345 list it right after P0C48 among a group of MIL codes for the battery and electronics coolant pumps; Ford traces them to the battery energy control module software and fixes them by reprogramming. GM, by contrast, folds short to power into P0C47. CARB requires the outputs of battery thermal management to be monitored for circuit faults. If the pump actually loses its command, the battery heats up faster under load and the system reduces power. P0C48 is the low counterpart, P0C4D concerns the supply voltage instead.
