P0C6C: Generator Position Sensor Circuit B High

P0C6C is the high-side fault of circuit B in the generator resolver. On the 2023 Outlander PHEV, where circuit B is the cosine winding, Mitsubishi triggers it when the cosine voltage sits at 4.900 V or above for 0.21 s; the monitor stays active as long as the generator control unit is supplied with 8 V. First rule out a cosine lead that touches a voltage source, followed by connector damage and an internal fault in the power drive unit, which houses the generator control unit. Mitsubishi also has the radiator fan codes dealt with first and, before fitting a new generator, the EV oil cooling inspected. Unlike P0C6D, the voltage here is held out of range rather than leaving it briefly. P0C67 is the same fault on the sine side.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the battery warning light comes on, you could get stranded. Turn off electrical accessories and go straight to a repair shop.

Symptoms

  • Malfunction indicator lamp and hybrid warning
  • Generator inactive, state of charge drops while driving
  • Engine may run more often or the car limits power

Most likely causes

  • Cosine lead shorted to a supply or excitation line
  • Damaged resolver connector with bridged pins
  • Internal fault in the power drive unit holding the generator control unit
  • Open cosine lead that drifts high at the input

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0C6C means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 6C: Specific fault in that system
