P0CC7: Charge Port Door A Open Request Switch Circuit

P0CC7 is the general circuit fault of the button that requests opening of charge flap A. GM reads this switch as a percentage of its reference and expects defined states; on the 2011 to 2013 Chevrolet Volt the code sets when the reading sits in a forbidden band between 65.9 and 81.6 percent, which indicates a wrong resistance, for instance a damaged switch or a partly broken wire. Six bad readings out of eight (50 ms steps in 2011/2012, 500 ms in the 2013 table) trigger it, and it is a Type B code with the lamp after two trips. Hard shorts are split off into P0CC9 (to ground) and P0CCA (to battery voltage); unstable signals belong to P0CCB. In daily use the flap may ignore the button, while opening via the key or screen can still work.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Charge flap does not open with the button
  • Warning lamp after two trips (GM Volt)
  • Opening via key, app or screen still possible on some models

Most likely causes

  • Open request switch with wrong internal resistance
  • Partly broken wire or corroded connector raising circuit resistance
  • Moisture in the switch housing
  • Faulty switch input in the control module

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • Repair difficulty: medium

What each character of P0CC7 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • C7: Specific fault in that system
