P0CCA: Charge Port Door A Open Request Switch Circuit High

With P0CCA the control module sees the charge flap A open request switch signal above its highest valid level. Depending on the circuit, a wire shorted to battery voltage or an interrupted ground or switch path pushes the reading up. GM's Volt monitor from 2011 onward flags it when more than 94.5 percent of the reference is measured in six of eight samples, then stores it as a Type B code with the lamp after two trips; the 2013 table stretches the sample spacing to 500 ms. Low readings below 22.9 percent go to P0CC9 instead, and an invalid middle value to P0CC7. Since a high reading usually looks like a button that is never pressed, the typical complaint is a charge flap that cannot be opened from the switch.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the car is running normally, drive in moderation to a repair shop. If it loses power or another warning appears, do not continue.

Symptoms

  • Charge flap cannot be opened with the button
  • Warning lamp after two trips (GM Volt)

  • Interrupted ground or switch return path
  • Pin pushed back in the connector

What to check, in order

  • Repair difficulty: medium

What each character of P0CCA means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • C: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • CA: Specific fault in that system
