P0CE0 means coolant control valve A of the battery loop is electrically sound but does not reach or hold its commanded position. GM's 2011 Chevrolet Volt checks the four-port valve in stages: an end-stop learn, reaching the target within 1.5 s, drift above 3 % and a noisy feedback; 1280 of 1600 samples at 6.25 ms set a Type B code. GM's 2016 ELR tables use P1F56 for this. Audi stores P0CE000 in the thermal management unit of the 2020-2022 Q5 TFSI e and fixes it with new software (TSB 2067066). Mercedes reads it as a battery coolant shutoff valve that does not close. Toyota reports its RAV4 Prime fault P0CDF72, a stuck-open battery cooling valve, as SAE P0CE0 and revised the air conditioner amplifier logic (T-SB-0057-21). The opposite case is P0CE1.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- MIL on, often without other symptoms
- Battery temperature regulation less effective
Most likely causes
- Control software or limits too strict (Audi, Toyota updates)
- Valve sticking or actuator too weak
- Position feedback drifted or noisy
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- Repair difficulty: hard
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0CE0 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- C: Subsystem depends on the code range
- E0: Specific fault in that system
