P0D69: A/C Compressor Motor Voltage Sensor A Performance

P0D69 is a plausibility check: the high voltage that the electric A/C compressor measures at its input should match the traction battery voltage, since both see the same supply. GM's Volt sets it when the two differ by more than 15 V in the 2011 table (35 of 40 samples at 250 ms) and by more than 30 V in the 2016 and 2019 tables (8 of 10 s in 2019), each Type B with MIL after two trips and only with contactors closed and no battery voltage codes active. Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV uses 20 V for 2 s, with the compressor reading 205 to 415 V, a battery above 15 °C and intake air above 0 °C; the 2023 model lights only the MIL for it. Usual causes are the compressor's internal measurement, the data link carrying its value, or the hybrid controller. Range faults are P0D6A and P0D6B.

Low severity. Can I keep driving?Yes, you can keep driving. The air conditioning may not work.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Air conditioning weak or switched off
  • Often no other noticeable change

Most likely causes

  • Drifting high-voltage measurement inside the electric compressor
  • Fault on the data bus that carries the compressor voltage value
  • Hybrid or vehicle controller misjudging the comparison
  • Error in the battery voltage measurement used as reference

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

What each character of P0D69 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • D: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 69: Specific fault in that system
