P0ABB: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense A Circuit Range/Performance

P0ABB is a plausibility check: the measured pack voltage is within electrical limits but does not agree with what the individual cells add up to. GM documents it in several hybrid tables. From 2016 the battery controller flags it when pack voltage and the sum of cell voltages differ by more than 10 V in 32 of 40 samples; the 2013 table compares the pack reading with 32 times the average cell voltage and uses a 5.49 V limit. Both are Type B, so the MIL needs two trips. The check is suppressed while cell voltage circuit faults are active. P0ABC and P0ABD cover hard low or high readings, P0AF8 compares the pack sensor with the inverter bus voltage.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • Check engine or hybrid system warning light
  • Erratic state-of-charge display
  • Reduced electric power

Most likely causes

  • Pack voltage measurement drifted (divider or input aging)
  • Faulty cell voltage tap distorting the cell sum
  • High-resistance busbar or sense connection

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0ABB means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • A: Hybrid or air and fuel
  • BB: Specific fault in that system
