P0DA6: Drive Motor B Inverter Voltage Sensor A Circuit High

P0DA6 is the upper-limit fault of the rear inverter voltage signal: the reading sticks near the top, as with a short to the sensor supply, or the bus really is overvolted. Mitsubishi checks it in the rear motor control unit of the 2018 Outlander PHEV whenever that unit is powered with 8 to 16 V; a sensor output above 4.7 V, standing for about 440 V, held for 0.3 s sets the code. The manual then looks at the other units: only if the front unit also stores P0D30 and the generator unit P1078 does it go on to the high-voltage fuse and cabling, because a shared high reading points to the battery or HV circuit. If the rear unit is alone, it is replaced straight away. The 2023 model lists the code as a maximum range check with MIL. True overvoltage at the rear inverter has its own code, P0C7A.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • MIL and plug-in hybrid warning on
  • Rear motor drive switched off, reduced power

Most likely causes

  • Rear motor control unit sensing faulty when no other unit reports high voltage (Mitsubishi)
  • Fault in the high-voltage circuit or battery when front and generator units also report high
  • Signal shorted to the sensor supply inside the inverter

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0DA6 means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • D: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • A6: Specific fault in that system

Frequently asked questions

What causes code P0DA6?

The most common causes are: rear motor control unit sensing faulty when no other unit reports high voltage (Mitsubishi); fault in the high-voltage circuit or battery when front and generator units also report high; signal shorted to the sensor supply inside the inverter.
