P0D30 is the high-side partner of P0D2F: the inverter voltage signal of drive motor A stays near its upper limit. Mitsubishi checks it on the 2018 Outlander PHEV with the front motor unit supplied at 8 to 16 V; a sensor output above 4.7 V, which stands for roughly 440 V, for 0.3 s sets the code. The manual first asks whether the rear motor unit also stores P0DA6, because then a genuine overvoltage from the battery or the HV circuit is more likely than one bad sensor; fuse and cabling come next, the power drive unit last. The 2023 model uses 4.05 V at capacitor 1 for 0.16 s and turns on the MIL. A short to the sensor supply is the classic cause on the sensing side. Real overvoltage has its own code, P0C79.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- MIL and hybrid system warning
- Electric drive switched off or reduced
Most likely causes
- Voltage sensing in the power drive unit shorted to supply
- Real overvoltage from battery or HV circuit (both motor units report)
- Loose or damaged high-voltage connection
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0D30 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- D: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 30: Specific fault in that system
