P0E0C: Generator Phase U-V-W Circuit/Open

P0E0C concerns the three power phases between generator inverter and generator, not the current sensors. The J2012 title fits the use Mitsubishi documents for the 2023 Outlander PHEV under its own label of generator current deviation: with at least 50 A commanded, the generator between 500 and 4,500 rpm and 8 V supply, a U, V or W current stuck within about 17 A either side of zero for 0.4 s, or a failed comparison with the target current, sets P0E0C-00 and the MIL. A phase that carries no current despite a demand is just what an open line looks like; GM checks drive motor phases in a similar way under P0C05. Likely causes are loose high-voltage terminals, a damaged phase cable or winding, or the inverter. Phase sensor faults are P0E00 to P0E0B.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving? If the battery warning light comes on, you could get stranded. Turn off electrical accessories and go straight to a repair shop.

Symptoms

  • MIL and hybrid system warning light on
  • Generator no longer charges, engine runs without series hybrid support
  • Possible noise or vibration from the generator under load

Most likely causes

  • Loose or burnt high-voltage phase terminal between inverter and generator
  • Phase cable or generator winding interrupted
  • Power drive unit does not drive one phase (switch or driver fault)

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0E0C means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • E: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 0C: Specific fault in that system
