Channel F is the sixth and last pack voltage measurement in this series and comes after channel E (P0E44 to P0E48). P0E49 is its general circuit fault: the battery controller cannot use the input, for instance because the sense line is open, the measuring chip reports an internal error or the raw value is missing, while no clear low, high or erratic pattern applies. No manufacturer documents P0E49 publicly. Systems that compare several high-voltage measurements, as GM's 2019 hybrids do between the pack sensor and the inverter and charger bus voltages, depend on every channel being valid. CARB requires all battery voltage sensors of the storage system to be monitored. The vehicle typically limits or refuses high-voltage operation.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- High-voltage warning and reduced power
- Vehicle may refuse to become ready
Most likely causes
- Open sense lead or disconnected connector of channel F
- Internal fault of the voltage measuring chip or battery controller
- Moisture or corrosion in the pack-side connector
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0E49 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- E: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 49: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
